Professional Gutter Installation for the Keller & Flower Mound Area
Many homeowners don’t know that the way rain gutters are installed dramatically impacts their long term efficacy. There are many ways to install rain gutters, but in order to ensure your gutter system protects your home from wood rot, foundation issues, land erosion, and other concerns, they need to be installed correctly. The Platinum Gutters team promises to properly install and secure your gutters, help you select the right material and style of gutter, and do everything we can to make the gutter installation process completely painless.
Properly Installed Gutters
The first mistake that some gutter installation agencies make is installing gutters on top of the “drip edge” called roof flashing. This is a faster installation method, but it also allows water to run off the roof and drip between the gutter system and the fascia, a straight board that runs directly below the roof supporting roof tiles and guttering. In many cases, water that seeps between the gutter and fascia is able to sit on the wooden fascia leading to rot, mold, and other costly water damage down the line. We always properly install gutter systems behind the roof flashing, so the only place for the water to run is down the gutter system where it belongs.
Properly Secured Downspouts
Downspouts are the vertical parts of the gutter that do the heavy lifting carrying water down the side of your home and away from the foundation. To keep the downspout functioning effectively without leaking or coming free from the house, they must be adequately secured to the sides of the home using straps. Many companies attach downspouts to mortar rather than brick as this is a faster option. However, mortar deteriorates which will allow the downspouts to loosen, leak, or fall.

Gutter System Styles
We always recommend seamless gutters rather than the old fashioned, minimally effective sectional variety. Seamless gutters are available in a number of styles including K-style or Ogee gutters, half-round gutters, box gutters, and straight face gutters. Currently, the standard set for residential guttering is a five inch, K-style, seamless system crafted from high quality aluminum.
The Benefit of Seamless Gutters
If you’ve ever seen a home with sectional guttering, you likely also noticed sagging sections, parts that were broken free from the home, and other issues related to this old fashioned system. Seamless gutters are not only less likely to leak or sag, they are crafted on-site to ensure they are perfect for your home. That means seamless gutters also offer a seamless fit tailored to any home that will last for decades.
Why we Recommend Aluminum Gutters
Aluminum is the most affordable and longest lasting material for gutter systems, so it’s no surprise it’s also the most popular option. Aluminum gutter systems offer cost savings up front and over time. The initial cost of installation is significantly lower than other materials, but the long-term savings are exponential. In addition to having reduced maintenance costs since aluminum doesn’t rust and we use seamless materials, the value of a properly functioning gutter system in reduced home maintenance over the years cannot be measured. Your initial investment improve your long-term home investment, maintenance fees, and property values.
K-Style or Ogee Gutters Systems VS. Other Gutter System Styles
K-style gutters are our preferred style at Platinum Gutters, and they are the industry standard as well. Most residential homes now utilize K-style gutters. They have a higher capacity of water than rounded gutters, they have a stylish appearance, and they are less likely to leak or clog than other types of gutters. Over years of water impact, square or half-round gutters are likely to warp or bend, but the unique K-style gutter shape leads to minimal impact preventing bends or warping.
Choosing the Right Gutter Size
We determine the size of a K-style gutter by measuring the back to the front of the widest part of the gutter. The size of gutter will depend on the size of your home, slope of your roof, average rain and snow fall in your area, and other determining factors.
We most often use five inch K-style guttering. This is the right option for most homes, and this is the industry standard for home rain gutters. Five inches may not sound like much, but when properly installed, they can handle almost any amount of water runoff. You can improve the efficacy of five inch gutter systems by combining them with three by four inch downspouts which decrease the likelihood of clogs, warping out the downspouts, or breaking away.
In rare cases typically for larger homes and garages, we may recommend six inch gutter systems instead. If your home has a roof made from tile or metal, we may need to use a six inch guttering system to ensure the rain water is properly directed. Larger roofs produce heavier water drainage and need larger gutters to capture and drain water effectively. Like five inch guttering systems, we utilize three by four inch downspouts to ensure maximum drainage and significantly reduce the likelihood of clogging. Six inch gutter systems are able to direct even large quantities of water away from your home. Additionally, we may encourage you to choose accessories like splash blocks, gutter covers, or downspout extensions to ensure the best results.

Gutter Installation FAQs
How Long Does Gutter Installation Usually Take?
Generally speaking, the majority of gutter installation projects take no longer than a day, with most taking just three-quarters of a working day. However, larger homes could take 2-3 days depending on their size. When we inspect your house during your free estimate, we’ll be able to give you an idea of the expected timeframe to complete your project.
How Do I Know If I Need New Gutters?
You may need new gutters if you notice any of the following:
- Cracks, holes, or areas of rust anywhere in your gutter system.
- The gutters are sagging or pulling away from the house.
- There’s water pooling near your foundation.
- You notice peeling paint or water stains on your siding.
- Your gutters become frequently clogged, despite regular cleaning.
If your gutters are old or damaged, you shouldn’t hesitate to have them inspected to determine whether or not they require repair or replacement; not all damage is immediately noticeable!
How Can I Tell If My Gutters Aren’t Draining Properly?
If during a rainfall, you can hear the water slapping the ground, or you notice it pouring over the sides of the gutter, there may be a blockage, or the gutter itself may not be aligned evenly. If you notice paint peeling or corroded wood, the gutter is most likely clogged and causing water to overflow and run down along the exterior walls of the house. If you notice mold or puddles of water forming around the outside of your house, it’s a sure sign that there are drainage problems.
Why Does My House Need a Proper Gutter System?
To put it simply, gutters redirect rainwater away from your home’s foundation, siding, and landscaping. Without gutters, water can pool around your home, leading to issues such as foundation damage, basement flooding, soil erosion, and even mold growth on the siding. Properly installed gutters help to prevent costly repairs and protect your home’s structural integrity. Gutters also prevent leaves, twigs, acorns, or other debris from collecting in your gutters, and during the winter, they help prevent ice buildups on roofs.
Do Gutters Come in Various Shapes and Sizes?
Most gutters come in several sizes and shapes called profiles. These include U-shaped gutters as well as K-shaped configurations. The size of your room’s square footage also affects the size of the gutters you’ll need, as does the amount of rainfall in your area. Often, residential gutters are sized at 5 inches, but homeowners can also opt for 6-inch gutters, which hold significantly more water.
Do Gutters Add Value to a Home?
You can think of gutters in terms of investment; gutter installation is crucial for your home’s water management system and saves you from having to make costly repairs. Believe it or not, the number one cause of foundation damage is inadequate drainage – which can be prevented by having gutters! This means that homes with new, updated gutters are potentially more valuable in the sense that they will be more resistant to potential weather-related damage.
