Are There Different Types of Gutters?

September 19, 2017

Homes come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and needs, and that’s why it’s a good thing there are different types of gutters to help fit each and every home in north Texas.

The industry standard and our recommendation for rain gutters is a five-inch, seamless K-style gutter made out of aluminum. Keep reading to find out just what that means.

K-Style Gutters vs. Other Gutters

K-style gutters, our recommendation, are specially shaped to catch the maximum amount of water with the least amount of stress to the gutter. They are so named because the outer shape vaguely resembles the shape of a K.

Square and circular gutters often cannot hold enough water for a true Texas downpour, leaving them likely to leak or buckle under the pressure. K-style needs less maintenance over a lifetime, and it is also a more subtle, aesthetically pleasing gutter option for your home.

Why Aluminum Is Best

Aluminum costs a little more upfront than other materials, but it is highly resistant to rust and requires less maintenance over a lifetime. That means that aluminum gutters usually end up being the best investment in the long run. Steel, copper, and PVC gutters may look like a cheaper option right at first, but unfortunately, they just do not stand the test of time.

Forget About Sectional Gutters

Sectional gutters are the old fashioned, bulky ones that stick out separately from the home. They are probably what you imagine when you think “gutter,” and you have probably also seen a number of sagging or broken sectionals. This option is at a great risk of leaking or coming apart from the home, requiring expensive maintenance.

Instead, we recommend (and the industry standard is) seamless gutters. These have fewer connections than sectional gutters, and are less likely to rust and need maintenance over time. Seamless gutters are also less noticeable compared to sectional ones.
